Being a “Light” to the World

Being a “Light” to the “World

“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”      Matthew 5:16

Bible Text:     Matthew 5:13-16, Philippians 2:12-16, I Timothy 3:15

Key Thought:

“Just the time we need the church, the church has become just like us.”                                                                                  Washington Post

The secular humanist society in which we live is failing!  Many people in the world are “looking for answers” to solve the moral and social problems of our day.  Jesus said, “…if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”    Matthew 15:14

Alex DeTocqueville, a French historian and political philosopher in the 1800’s said, “America is great because she is good. When she ceases to be good she will cease to be great.”  The Church must lead our nation back to righteousness!

Three Keys to Being a Light to the World

1) Living Based on Biblical Standards of Holiness

We must live the way God says not the way the world says!

Romans 12:1-2, I John 2:15-17

2) Practicing Servanthood

In God’s kingdom, service to others is the way to greatness and success!

Matthew 20:25-28, John 15:12-13, Philippians 2:3-11

3) Overcoming the Fear of Man

To fulfill God’s purpose in our lives, we must obey God and not compromise because of      the “fear of man.”

Proverbs 29:25, Matthew 10:28, Galatians 1:10, II Timothy 1:7

Closing Thoughts

“Our life (deeds and words) may be the only ‘Jesus’ that some will ever see or hear.”

“We need to always witness, and sometimes use words.”
